ITE

This is one of the experimental interventions launched by Nalanda in the year 2014. The intervention was conceptualized on the understanding that technology, if integrated with curriculum and pedagogy, can give growing children the much needed learning lift and propel them to a higher level of learning.

It was an ambitious intervention. Nalanda did not have expertise on such integrative approach. More importantly, keeping marginalization in mind, the setting of the intervention was chosen not only in rural Uttar Pradesh but in Madrasas located there, which are often more removed from conventional education than other institutions such as schools. However, Nalanda here decided to get a little purposive and chose those Madrasas with whom it had intervened and who were proactive and inclined to work with Nalanda.   

Nalanda is thus facilitating regular ITE classes in 10 Madrasas. Classes of 30-40 minutes were being held for students of classes 4th to 8th in the selected Madrasas to integrate their syllabus with technology through the use of computers, internet & Digital Camera. However, since the emphasis was on an intensive approach, Nalanda decided to carry forward the intervention with the same students. So while in a few Madrasas that had classes only till V, students of classes IV and V are taken for the intervention every year, in the other Madrasas the intervention were carried through to students of classes V and VI. These students were in classes IV and V when the intervention started and will be in classes VI and VII in the next year.   Applications such as multimedia, spread sheet, power point and movie maker are being systematically used by the children today as a result of the regular classes.
