TRIBAL RESOURCE CENTER – JHARKHAND

To cater the need of educational resource agency, Nalanda established Resource Centre for tribal education at Ranchi (Jharkhand) in the year 2004. After its establishment is now being widely recognized as a resource centre in the state of Jharkhand. A good rapport has been established with government as well as non-government agencies working on education. As a resource centre, Nalanda has endeavored to capacitate the ground level NGOs of the state through TOT programme to run educational programme effectively. Presently Nalanda is working in 60 schools of Itki&Bero Block of Ranchi district for quality education.

In the state, working closely with government schools and grass-root NGOs, Nalanda realized that there is dearth of supportive reading materials in local dialect necessary for the development of language skills of the children. To fulfill this requirement Nalanda has translated 51 short stories for the children in “Santhali”, “Mundari” and “Ho” dialect for the use in schools run by NGOs and government. Collaborating with government system Nalanda has provided training and technical support to more than 600 government schools directly or indirectly in Sahibganj district to make the school libraries functional.

An important aspect of our interventions is that we consider the program sustainability right from the initial stages of the intervention. To cater to such long-term plans, Nalanda has developed a training of trainers (TOT) module and a ToT program for an education resource group within the state of Jharkhand. The members of this group are being handpicked and suitable training is being provided to capacitate them.

Nalanda hadrun 30 alternative learning centers for out of school girls in Bero block of Ranchi district from 2008 with the financial support of IIMPACT Gurgaon.
