The school improvement program, a program of collaboration with government, runs in all thethree states where Nalanda is directly intervening. In the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar the school improvement program is specifically a component of the RTE compliance efforts and isworking in tandem with the learning hub initiative while in Jharkhand this program is beingimplemented directly in two districts - Ranchi and west Singbhum.Currently 288 government and 9 private primary schools are under the fold of the program in three states.Through this intervention more than 35000children have been benefited so far. Through the intervention, Nalandaprovides Hand Holding Support to the schools throughonsite demonstration activities. Direct activities to improve creativity and leadership skills among children are also executed.Another vital aspect of this intervention is improving community role in the school education. SoSMCs are regularly strengthened and regular SMC meetings are held. Today, these SMCs arealso playing a role in better running of the schools and are much better aware of their roles and responsibilities than they used to be earlier.
